In 1981, Adam Osborne introduced the first portable computer which was names the Osborne 1. The computer weighed 23.5 pounds and cost $1,795, and had very comparable features with other manufacturers. the computer ran on the CP/M operating system and had a full keyboard.
Yes i know you are wondering what does a portable computer have anything to do with the Internet? Well computers are the only way for us to even use the internet. Without computers there would not be any internet. And Osborne's portable computer lead the way for improvement to be made.
In 1983 Manuel (Manny) Fernandez the founder of Gavilan SC, was the first ever to create and name it the "Laptop." The first laptop was huge and had a tiny screen. The screen fold shuts over the keyboard, and the laptop was equipped with a floppy disk drive and used MS-DCS operating system.
Could you imagine that every time you had to use the computer or check something online that you would have to go to the library, or back to your house, or even go back to your office at your job. That would be crazy, and very annoying. So instead of running somewhere to get on a computer, now you can just pull out your laptop and use the internet whenever or where ever you are.

Everyone from business corporations, to college students, professors, the army, even kids in Africa have benefited from using the internet on laptops. All the soldiers in Iraq can use there laptops to get on the internet or email there friends and family. You can walk anywhere in University at Buffalo and i guarantee that you will see someone somewhere, sitting down and getting on the internet through there laptop.
As the years went by, Laptops have improved greatly. You can get on the interent in a matter of seconds. There are so many different features and ways that you can use the internet on a laptop, such as email, aim, AOL, Google, and plenty more. They also have so many different size laptops so can be anywhere and use the internet comfortably. People can have laptops in there car to use the internet or even bring there laptop on a plane. If everyone had to use a computer to get online then I don't think the internet and so many sites on the internet would be as popular as they are now. Imagine every college student that doesn't have a computer on there dorms having to wait on a line at the school library just to get on the internet. That's not cool at all. Laptops gives everyone and easier and faster way to get on the internet. And as we continue to go into the future, laptops will just improve its internet access every year.
